Edge Operations Engineer in Aquabyte

Closed job - No longer receiving applicants

Aquabyte is on a mission to revolutionize the sustainability and efficiency of aquaculture. By making fish farming cheaper and more viable than livestock production, we aim to mitigate one of the biggest causes of climate change and help prepare our planet for impending population growth. Aquaculture is the single fastest growing food-production sector in the world, and now is the time to define how technology is used to harvest the sea and preserve it for generations to come. Through custom underwater cameras, computer vision, and machine learning, we are able to quantify fish weights, detect health status, and generate optimal feeding plans in real time.
This role is flexible and is based out of our Chilean offices Puerto Varas and involves occasional travel to the United States and Norway.
You should be familiar with Linux, networking, certificate authorities, and deploying software to both ARM64 and AMD64 hardware.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure that Aquabyte has reliable and redundant means by which to securely deploy new software to remote IoT devices.
  • Improve our redundancies such that the impact of a hardware failure is minimized.
  • Improve our autoconfiguration story so that field operations do near-zero on-site configuration to install our hardware.
  • Improve our observability and monitoring to detect software or hardware issues before they cause an outage.
  • Participate in diagnosing and fixing device issues remotely and implementing procedures and tooling to help enable the field team to self-diagnose and fix issues themselves.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you should have an Engineering or Computer Science degree and a solid understanding of TCP/IP. You must also have experience writing and building software, with professional experience in C, C++, Golang, Python, or Rust. Familiarity with Linux, networking, certificate authorities, and deploying software to both ARM64 and AMD64 hardware is essential. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud environments such as AWS.
  • Software development on an embedded device.
  • Experience deploying to off-site hardware.
  • Familiarity with proxies, switches/routers, DHCP, HTTP, DNS, TLS, NTP, SSH, and NAT.
  • Experience with containerized workloads such as Docker.
  • Professional experience working with cameras.
  • Build and maintain fleet operations tools for monitoring, notifications, trending, and analysis.
  • Experience managing certificate authority processes.
  • Working experience with wireless networks.
  • Experience at a small & quickly growing startup.
