We are currently seeking a Database Optimization Engineer to join us in a crucial role that focuses on the functionality and reliability of our database systems.

Key Responsibilities

As a Database Optimization Engineer, your primary goal will be to enhance the efficiency and performance of our database systems. Your key responsibilities will include:

Managing and administering MSSQL databases with a focus on failover clusters and Always On availability groups.
Implementing Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) and handling very large databases (VLDB) exceeding 4 TB.
Automating database processes using tools like Terraform and PowerShell, along with any configuration management tools such as Chef or Ansible.
Analyzing query plans for performance improvements and optimizing costs associated with data storage and processing.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure database systems align with business needs and cloud strategies.

Required Skills and Experience

To thrive in this role, we are looking for individuals with the following skills and experience:

MSSQL Administration: Minimum 5 years of experience managing SQL Server environments, particularly with failover clusters and availability groups.
Cloud Experience: At least 3 years of experience working with cloud platforms, preferably AWS or Azure.
Automation Skills: Proficiency in automation tools such as Terraform and PowerShell, with knowledge of Chef, Ansible, or Puppet being highly beneficial.
Analytical Skills: Capability to analyze and optimize query plans for improved database performance.
Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills are essential to work collaboratively in a remote environment.

Desirable Skills

While not mandatory, candidates with the following skills will be favored:

Experience in query plan analysis and a solid understanding of data cost optimization strategies.
Additional knowledge in backup solutions, performance tuning, and data lifecycle management.
Familiarity with other automation tools and practices.
